2021+ Yamaha MT-09 Integrated Tail Light – The New Standard Is Here
Sometimes there’s no better feeling than wrapping up a project that has demanded the world from you, especially when it happens right at the end of a year as crazy as 2022. You get to close a big chapter on the high note of seeing a design come to life and delight customers by blowing past expectations. I’m talking about none other than our all-new TST Programmable and Sequential LED Integrated Tail Light for the 2021+ Yamaha MT-09.
We started on this project a while ago and gave everyone a hint that it was in the works back in May of 2021. To say that this has been a long-awaited product for some eager customers is an understatement, but that’s how design and manufacturing go – especially at this high of a level. We could have come out with something faster just to make a quick buck and satisfy the need of getting something out in the market for riders, but we didn’t want to take the easy route or go with just any old tail light. We wanted something special, and special takes time.
This tail light not only pushed our engineering and design to the limits but it also pushed us forward in our manufacturing. Through every stage of the process, we were coming up with ideas and solutions that are completely unique to this tail light. Once you have this tail light on your bike or see it in person, it’s clear that every detail has been thought through to an excruciating degree, because this MT-09 integrated tail light is TST Industries through and through.
The unmistakable design takes cues from the front of the MT-09 and mixes them with some TST Industries style and the brightness everyone has come to expect from us. The result is an entirely unique design, inside and out, that you simply won’t find anywhere else. The overall shape has been improved over the OEM counterpart, blending the tail lines and design into the tail light shape to create a more cohesive overall look. Our tail light features black plastic ducting that has been color and texture matched to the other plastic tail parts, ensuring a smooth visual transition from tail to tail light.

You’ll notice an immediate improvement in the lens compared to the plain red plastic of the OEM unit, but instead of offering either a clear or smoked version, we went with one choice – light smoke. When installed on the 2021+ Yamaha MT-09, the tail light looks smoked due to the ducting, design, and specifically designed internal components that aid in creating that darker look. Because of all of those other factors, we were able to only add a tiny bit of tint to the lens to achieve that effect without diminishing the light output from the internal LEDs.
You’ll notice three main fields in our tail light lens design: the Y field, the C fields, and the Eye field. Each one was designed to serve a distinct purpose and contribute to the visual identity and effectiveness of our tail light. The Y and C fields feature a heavy frosted texture to produce a bright yet very evenly distributed and smooth glowing effect that is visible from the back and sides of the tail. The Eye fields contribute the most to the overall aggressive look, while also packing some highly advanced lens optics and the most powerful LEDs behind them, producing bright conical-shaped light emission to ensure your visibility on the road. The top of the lens also features a unique design that converges all of the design and lens elements, resulting in a gorgeous illuminated edge glow.

Instead of through-hole LEDs, this design utilizes SMD-style LEDs for super high-powered light output. Our pulse-width modulation method of super-charging the LEDs enables us to produce reliable and extremely bright units that demand attention on the road. Combine those with our sophisticated internal reflecting system and the results are distinct light fields that add to the quality and design of the tail light, enabling turn signal activation to be bright and distinct within the C and Eye fields without any light bleed from other elements of the tail light.
We know that once you get this tail light in your hands, you’re going to want to go for a ride with it as soon as possible, but first, you have to install it. That’s why we made that process as easy as we possibly could. It utilizes all of the stock mounting points, stock hardware, and most importantly it is completely plug-and-play. That means that you don’t have to cut, splice, or solder any wiring. You simply unplug and remove the OEM tail light, then mount our unit and plug it in using the OEM-style connectors. You can then set the light mode you want by pressing the easy to reach Program button on the back of the unit to cycle through each of the light modes, including everyone’s favorite – sequential turn signals and strobe brake alert. Once you land on your favorite light mode and get everything put back together, you’ll be back on the road in no time!
We know that this tail light had a long build-up. We got all of your messages, calls, replies, and bricks with notes on them. Trust us…we heard you. But as you can see, good things take time, and this tail light isn’t just good…it’s phenomenal. The time spent waiting was well worth it, because this tail light is the most advanced tail light to ever come out of TST Industries, and we just set a new standard for ourselves, and hopefully for the rest of the market as well.
