2022+ Yamaha YZF-R7 Tail Tidy Solutions from TST Industries
With a bike as modern and aggressive as the all-new Yamaha YZF-R7, we firmly believe it deserves a better tail section than what Yamaha was able to put together. We aren’t knocking Yamaha by any means, we know their hands are tied by a slew of rules and regulations that come with selling a motorized vehicle on the world stage, but that kind of standardized styling doesn’t fit everyone, and it certainly doesn’t fit us.
That’s why Bart set out to design a fender eliminator and undertail closeout for the R7 that not only matched the R7 in terms of styling, but in fit, finish, and quality as well.
When the dust finally settled, Bart and the team had designed not just one fender eliminator option, but three, as well as a dedicated undertail closeout. Each kit provides unique benefits, enabling R7 owners to choose the perfect kit that fits their needs and budget.
First up, let’s discuss the foundation that the tail tidy kits build upon, and that is the exquisite CNC machined aluminum undertail closeout. The precision manufacturing and durable black anodized finish set this closeout apart from other closeouts on the market. Its unique shape flows with the rest of the undertail, filling in the gap left behind after removing the stock fender, and blends in with the rest of the undertail geometry. If you didn’t know better, you would think this is a factory component – and that’s exactly how we like it. You’ll have to look closely to notice the subtle TST iconography and CNC machined texture on the closeout, purposefully shaped to resemble a tuning fork – an iconic part of the Yamaha logo and brand history.
If you’re hitting the track and want to fill in the undertail hole, or simply running a different license plate bracket altogether that mounts in a different location, the TST Undertail Closeout is your answer.
Now, I previously said that the undertail closeout is the foundation of our tail tidy kits, and that’s especially true for our Elite-1 High Mount options as they mount directly to the undertail closeout. We designed a standard bracket that features a fixed mounting position, as well as an adjustable bracket that you can tilt and customize the look of your R7 even further. The standard bracket is produced from laser-cut stainless steel and has a black powder coat finish for a stealthy appearance. It’s a fantastic way of upgrading your R7 while staying on a budget. If you want to upgrade to something more sophisticated, the adjustable bracket features a full CNC machined aluminum construction with a durable black anodized finish. Both of these kits automatically include the Undertail Closeout and mount your license plate in a “high” location, similar to stock. So, if there’s a “high” mount…that must mean there’s a “low” mount, right? Absolutely!
The last, and arguably best-looking option, is our Elite-1 Low-Mount kit. This tail tidy ditches the stock look completely and goes for something much more aggressive and race-inspired. The included undertail closeout fills the gap left behind from removing the stock fender, however, in this kit the bracket doesn’t mount directly to the closeout, but rather much lower on the subtray. That leaves the undertail unincumbered by a license plate bracket, just like your favorite race bikes. The fixed position license plate bracket mounts low on the undertail, tucked up under the seat, and angled to be flush with the subtray.
Low mount is a fan favorite since it creates such an aggressive and unique look, but no matter what Elite-1 Fender Eliminator kit you go with, the outcome is far better than what was on your R7 as it rolled out of the dealership, so there’s really no wrong choice in terms of gaining a few style points.
We didn’t forget about your rear turn signals…those are kind of important after all. You have a few options to choose from depending on what Elite-1 Fender Eliminator kit you go with.
If you go with a High-Mount Elite-1 Fender Eliminator, you can choose to remount your stock rear turn signals by choosing to include the OEM Rear Turn Signal Bracket, which is a precision-crafted CNC machined aluminum bracket with a stealthy black anodized finish specifically designed to remount the stock Yamaha signals in a safe and secure fashion. Or, you could upgrade to your choice of TST LED Turn Signals by opting to go with our TST LED Rear Pod Turn Signal Bundle. It includes your choice of BL6, ECHO, or ARO18 LED turn signals, mounting hardware, and wire harness converters to ensure an easy plug-and-play installation.
If you go with the Low-Mount kit, you’ll be ditching the OEM mounting location and won’t be able to reinstall the stock turn signals…but let’s be honest, there’s really no big loss there. We’ve got your back though. Our Low-Mount Rear Turn Signal Kit is a specialized hardware kit that mounts your choice of either Low-Profile or ECHO LED Pod Turn Signals on either side of your low-mount license plate set up. The included wire harness converter keeps the installation a simple plug-and-play process, ensuring you don’t have to cut, splice, or solder anything.
Since many riders choose not to run a license plate light, we keep our Stealth LED License Plate Light as a separate item so that we aren’t creating unnecessary waste or inflated costs due to including an unwanted item. The positap connectors make installation a breeze, and the wire routing holes in our undertail closeout create a clean, finished install with no rogue wires hanging around.
If you’re reading this and looking at all of these sweet pictures, all the while thinking in that R7 loving brain of yours that you can’t install any of this on your own, kick that thought out the same way you’re going to kick the oversized fender off your R7. We go to great lengths to film the most in-depth step-by-step installation videos possible so that anyone with a basic set of tools can tackle the installation of their parts. Just check out our YouTube channel and you’ll find hundreds of install videos that walk you through the entire process in great detail. Or, go to the product page of the item you’re shopping for and look in the tabs to find the product-specific installation video. We want to make the process of ditching the stock parts and transforming your R7 into something you love even more as easy as possible.
There’s no reason to settle for stock, especially when upgrading is this easy and looks this good!
On the standard high mount, where do the rear turn signals go?
If you’re using your OEM signals, you can include the OEM rear signal bracket and easily remount them. If you want aftermarket signals (like our BL6 Pod Turn Signals) we offer a rear signal bundle that is located in the category and mount to the back of the license plate with black powder coated brackets. Install on both is pretty straight forward and the end result is great.
