The all new Yamaha R7 made quite the splash when it was announced, with many people falling in love with the sporty styling and approachable power, and some screaming at their keyboard at the thought of the beloved classic R7 name being besmirched by a bike they felt doesn’t live up to the name. No matter what camp you fell in, the R7’s impact on the future of Yamaha was undeniable. It became clear that this economical approach to using the same tried and true platform to fill different markets was a winning recipe, and most likely only going to expand further. The MT-07 platform fills not only the hypernaked and classic segments, but the supersport crowd is now in on the fun. With rumors of the MT-09 / XSR900 platform gaining a fully-faired sibling, we can only cross our fingers and toes with the hope that Yamaha sees the writing on the walls and follows the path laid out by the smaller MT-07 platform, but until then, we’ll keep our focus on the new R7.
The 2022 R7’s aesthetic is an interesting blend of styles that overall leans towards an aggressive sport bike look, but also incorporates design cues from both the R and MT lineup. To be honest, we love the design and think Yamaha really hit the nail on the head with the R7; however, there’s always room for improvement, and that’s where we come in.
First up on our improvement list were the turn signals that awkwardly stick out of the side fairings. Yamaha’s choice to not use the mirror turn signals from the R6 but instead opt for the more cumbersome fairing signals was an odd one, but we see that as an opportunity to improve the design while providing riders with some easy customization, so we threw some engineers at the problem and let them get to work.
Using our popular R3 HALO-GTR Flushmount Turn Signals as a starting point, the design was tweaked to enable a perfect fitment into the similar fairing well on the R7 fairings. Then, we swapped the plugs so there’s no need for custom wiring, soldering, or splicing, and finally began production.
During our production phase, we got to spend more time with our first set of HALO-GTR signals on the R7. This is when we worked with local riders in the Florida area to borrow bikes, road test, and film all of our media, including our step-by-step installation video. As we waited for production to wrap up our first batch, we were being inundated by R7 owners asking us when they would be released so they could finally ditch their silly stock signals. We were crushed by emails, phone calls, DM’s, carrier pigeons, all of it. We could only say “soon” while we leaked videos and photos on our social media platforms, but after months of waiting, both our HALO-GTR and standard GTR LED Flushmount Turn Signals are available for you to order, but which one should you get?
To help make the choice easier, ask yourself one question. Say “self, do I want a perimeter running light around my turn signal in a cool color of my choice?”. If you say “yes” to that question, the HALO-GTR LED Flushmounts are the signals for you. You’ll be able to choose between clear or smoked signal lenses and select one of eight different Halo running light colors. If you answered “no” to the question, then the standard GTR LED Flushmounts are what you’re looking for. You’ll still select between a clear or smoked signal lens, but won’t be presented with the option of selecting a perimeter running light color. But don’t worry, the decision isn’t permanent. We offer the HALO Running Light Module as its own item and it can be added to the standard GTR Signals at any time. In addition, you can change your running light color by swapping out the HALO running light module for a new color whenever you wish by ordering the module separately.
No matter if you go with the Halo running light or not, you’re upgrading your signals with one of the highest quality flushmount turn signal systems on the market today. See, we don’t make your standard “run of the mill” flushmount designs, because all too often that sacrifices visibility in the effort to look good. Well, we wanted both. We wanted the styling of a smooth flushmount turn signal that blends seamlessly with the side fairing, while also retaining forward visibility and extreme brightness, and we achieved that with our exclusive R7 flushmount signals. The custom shape of the signal lens bumps out just enough while retaining flush edges for a smooth transition to the fairing. This bump provides the required visibility to blast our high-powered LEDs through the scatter array lens, retaining forward visibility. So not only can you ditch the pointy stock signals for a smooth and race-inspired design, but our advanced technology helps keep you visible AND looking good on the streets.
If you’re worried about the installation process – don’t be. Not only are the plugs completely plug-and-play, but we also have a thorough step-by-step installation video that shows you exactly how to install these turns signals. You can follow along with Mark as he walks you through how to remove OEM components, install your new signals, and reassemble your R7.
We launched our HALO-GTR LED Flushmount Turn Signals for the Yamaha R7 the first week of 2022, which is a fitting time for a 2022 model I think, and the response was amazing. As this bike grows over the next few years, we are thrilled to be able to help riders customize their R7 with a component that doesn’t just improve the style of that part in particular, but one that drastically improves the look of their bike overall.

We also make HALO turn signals for other bikes you may have in your garage. We currently have options available for the 2008-2016 Yamaha R6, 2015+ Yamaha R3, 2007-2012 Honda CBR600RR, 2013+ Honda CBR600RR, 2006-2007 Honda CBR1000RR, and Yamaha FZ6R. If you have any questions about these signals or any other products we offer, give us a call or send us an email and we are more than happy to help you out.
Would these fit on the 2021+ MT-07 as well? The indicators between the R7 and MT-07 appear to be the same…
These are designed to sit within the fairing well of the Yamaha R7 side fairing. They do not fit properly on the MT-07.
Are these water/ weather proof? Will water be able to seep in around the edges of the casing and affect circuitry?
These signals are sealed, so water should not seep in through the edges. If something were to happen, rest assured that all of our parts includes a standard 1-year warranty so you’d be able to get a replacement if something rare like that were to happen. We don’t recommend scuba diving with them or anything though 😉
