The Road Towards Something Better – TST Integrated Tail Light for the 2021+ MT-09 Prototype Gallery

Many of our customers may not know this, but our integrated tail lights are designed right here in Florida by our talented and passionate engineers, with our latest tail light release being an epic show off of their capabilities. The project was spearheaded by nonother than our company founder and head engineer, and while you may know him as the YouTube guy that does installs, we know him as Bart. We watched for months as he poured his heart and soul into the design in an effort to make something that wasn’t just different for the sake of being different, but different because it was better; better cohesive design with the bike, better functionality, and better value for the buyer.

Getting to that goal is a long road though, and this time it involved a slew of 3D printed elements to test exactly how the CAD designs looked in the real world once they were installed on the actual bike. That’s an incredibly important step that some people may not realize the crucial nature of, because sometimes a design that looks great in software may not always have the same desired effect once it’s produced at the proper scale and sitting on a bike in front of you. We tested a lot of inner designs and ultimately decided to go with what you see for sale today, but that shouldn’t stop us from taking a quick look back at some of the notable units we fitted to a Yamaha MT-09 and wondering what could have been.

Just because we didn’t end up producing any of these particular designs does not mean that we classify them as “failed designs”, and that’s because we learned something from each one. That’s what progress is all about. It moved us toward our final design, which was an instant hit when it transferred from software to 3D-printed hardware. We knew that all of the previous design iterations and frustrations that came along with that process were well worth it because it led to something better.

Personally, I’m happy we went with our final design that you see for sale today, but I’m curious to hear from our readers and see what your feedback is on the prototypes that we tested. Leave us a comment below and let us know what you think!
