Tech Tip #4: What is an Integrated Tail Light?

Questions

What is an integrated taillight? Why would I want one? When would I need one? What are the other options available to me? Why should I go with a TST taillight? What is the legality considerations of using signals integrated into the taillight?

Answers

An integrated taillight is simply a brake light that also incorporates turn signaling functions (hence “integrated”). Under running and braking conditions, they perform the exact same function as a regular brake light. While cruising, they are in a dim red setting and under braking they are bright red. However, when you engage your left or right turn signal, the taillight will illuminate amber (or yellow) LEDs on the signaling side. Some integrated taillights incorporate additional features such as strobe alert braking (flashes a few times at the beginning of braking to alert drivers) and sequential (aka scanning) signaling, where the amber LEDs illuminate from the center outwards. And last but certainly not least, some integrated taillights by TST Industries are altered in shape to produce a truly outstanding look to the tail section of your bike.
Many street bike owners want to remove the ugly OEM fender that comes with the bike from the factory. The OEM fender usually holds the license plate and turn signals, and in some instances, the brake light itself. So, riders purchase a fender eliminator to mount their license plate in a much lower profile manner. Then they have the option to remount “pod” turn signals on the bike or use an integrated taillight. The integrated taillight provides the best look with the least amount of equipment sticking out on the bike like a sore thumb. So, if you’re wanting to remove your OEM fender and are after the sleekest tail aesthetics, the integrated taillight is for you.
TST Industries designs, manufactures, and sells integrated taillights directly to riders. Our unique taillights offer some of the brightest, most robust, and easiest to install solutions available today. You can find most of our taillights in a clear and smoked lens option, and we also have a growing number of taillights that are significantly different in style than the OEM brake light, meaning we make your bike look better than ever.
Every jurisdiction governs the placement of signals on a motorcycle differently. In some there is a grandfathered-in law stating that using hand signals on a motorcycle is sufficient. Some have specific laws as to the placement distance between the left and right rear signal. It is the responsibility of the end user to research and comply with local laws.

  1. Hi there.
I have a tst integrated light for my 04 r1 maybe from 3 years ago. My battery died and got a new one. When the bike is finally running. I notice a change in the light. The running lights flashes on and off. Everything else works fine. Any idea? Ty
