TST Yamaha MT-03 Build Series – Phase 1

We knew we had big plans for the Yamaha MT-03 the moment news broke from Yamaha that it was coming stateside, and we couldn’t wait to get our hands on it. Knowing that it shared a lot of the same parts as it’s full fairing sibling, the Yamaha R3, we already had a pretty extensive catalog of parts at our disposal that we could use to improve the styling and the performance of the MT-03…but we had to get it first. And that’s exactly what we did in May of 2020.

We were one of the first to get our hands on the newly updated 321cc naked bike from Yamaha. As soon as we unloaded it from the trailer, we were tearing into it to confirm fitment on a massive list of parts. But as we were shooting installation videos, taking photos for our website, and dissecting the MT-03 to learn more about the new platform, there was an idea brewing behind the scenes – a full build series. The idea gained momentum, and the whole team loved the idea of throwing everything we could at the feisty MT-03. The goal was to not only make it look as awesome as we could, but also to give it the components that would make the performance and ride quality match the stunning looks, because after all, there is a lot of room for improvement in those two areas.

After some quick meetings, it was decided to pull the trigger, and we laid out a plan using ideas from our YouTube audience to help guide us along the way. And now, almost 5 months later, it’s hard to find an area of the MT-03 that we didn’t upgrade or modify in some way. Everything from the tail light to the front fork internals was upgraded to improve the style, performance, and ride quality, creating a gorgeous machine that is a joy to ride!

Take a look at the graphic below and you’ll notice that we have put a ton of parts on our MT-03. On top of our own TST Industries parts, we used parts from other brands we love, like our partner company Womet-Tech and other great brands like Ohlins, Andreani, Core Moto, Motion Pro, TechSpec, Graves, Vesrah, and Gilles.

TST Industries Yamaha MT-03 Build Series Part Callout

As we looked at what seemed like a completed build, we couldn’t help but think there was more we could do. We wanted to do something different, something better, after all, one of our mottos is “Be Different. Be Better.” That’s when it hit us – the XSR300. After looking at the MT-03 for years, never making it to the North American market, our eyes are now turned to the XSR300 that is expected to be announced, with rumors of it not making it stateside. So why not make one ourselves, but with some unmistakable TST styling. We have a whole new set of parts on order and custom fabricating that we’ll be working on in the coming weeks, and of course, we’ll be sharing it with everyone on our YouTube channel and social media platforms.

As for now, we can close the chapter of “Phase 1” on our TST MT-03 Build Series, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still enjoy what we created.
