Welcome Mathew Scholtz to the Yamalube/Westby Racing Family

In 2016, TST Industries had the exciting opportunity to collaborate with the Yamalube/Westby team, participating as one of the team sponsors for the MotoAmerica Road Race season. We were thrilled to be able to come on board with this team, providing a number of parts for the Yamalube/Westby race machine, including many of our crash protection parts.

With the beginning of the race season coming up, we couldn’t be more excited about the newest addition to the TST sponsored Yamalube/Westby Racing Team.  Tryg Westby, the principal owner of the Yamalube/Westby Racing team, announced that Mathew Scholtz, the 2016 South African SuperGP Champion, is officially a team rider for the 2017 MotoAmerica Series.

We’ve been watching Mathew for a while. He quickly became known in his native country of South Africa, making a name for himself in both motocross and road racing.  In 2016, while riding for another team in MotoAmerica’s Superstock 1000 class, he managed to make quite an impact on everyone watching.

When in Tooele, Utah, at the Utah Motorsports Campus, Mathew joined the Yamalube/Westby Racing team for round seven of the nine-round series.  During this first outting with the Westby race team, he impressed everyone with two podium finishes.  By the end of the season, Mathew had three second place finishes, and ended up seventh overall in the final standings of the Superstock 1000 Championship.

What’s a guy to do after dominating his inaugural race season in America? Head home to South Africa and take the national championship title, of course. Racing his #20 ETR Nashua Yamaha R1, he took home the 2016 SuperGP Championship at Red Star Raceway outside Delmas, South Africa.

When asked how it felt to be a national titleholder in his home country, Mathew responded “I am very proud to have won the 2016 SuperGP Championship in my home country of South Africa. But, for 2017, I am fully committed to racing in the MotoAmerica series, and for Yamalube/Westby Racing. It’s a brilliant series, and I love racing for the Westby team. The crew is brilliant, and I’m looking forward to winning races and, hopefully, the Championship for Tryg and the team this year.”

Look out for Mathew in this year’s MotoAmerica’s Superstock 1000 Championship. Mathew will be rockin the #11 on board the renowned black and gold Yamalube/Westby race machine, brandishing the TST logo, among others.

Pre-season racing kicks off on March 28 and 29 at the Circuit of Americas in Austin, Texas and returns to COTA on April 20-23 for the MotoAmerica Road Race Season.

TST is a proud sponsor of Mathew Scholtz and the Yamalube/Westby Race team, and we look forward to watching him on the track this season.
