Tech Tip #3: What is a Fender Eliminator?

Questions

What is a fender eliminator? Why would I want one? Are there different types of fender eliminators? What should I look for when buying a fender eliminator? What is the legality of using a fender eliminator?

Answers

A fender eliminator (FE) allows you to remove the OEM fender from your bike and remount your license plate and additional equipment if necessary.
More often than not, the OEM fender that comes on a sportbike is large, heavy, ugly, and sticks way out over the rear tire. So here you have a great looking, sleek machine with this bulbous license plate holder on the back. Not ideal. But this is where fender eliminators come in, and there are various styles to choose from.
TST specializes in 2 types of fender eliminators: “standard” and “adjustable”. The standard FE is a laser cut and bent piece of steel. The bend angle is fixed, meaning your license plate will be held in one position and can’t be altered easily. The standard option is extremely popular for those riders that want a low profile license plate bracket without spending excess amounts of cash. The adjustable version is a step up in craftsmanship and features. It’s made from CNC machined aluminum and does allow for adjustment of the license plate angle on the bike. Furthermore, the adjustable fender eliminators can be mounted in multiple locations on certain bike models, providing even more options to choose from to deliver the exact style you’re after. Both FE’s are compatible with our license plate light.
TST also makes undertail closeout pieces to accompany many of our FE’s. These closeouts help cover any holes that are visible after removing the OEM fender and sometimes provide a better surface for the FE to mount to.
Last important note: fender eliminators will generally allow you to remount turn signals near your license plate, should you want to. Although many customers prefer the ultra-compact look of an integrated taillight and no turn signals sticking off the side of their bike, some people do prefer the pod signal look and function.
At the end of the day, FE’s let you remove lots of bulky equipment from the rear of your bike to make it look a whole lot better. The best FE’s are built to last, allow for a range of mounting options, install easily, and can be used with or without pod turn signals.
In certain jurisdictions there are laws specific to where and how the license plate should be displayed on a motorcycle. We produce fender eliminators that mount in a few different locations on motorcycles. It is the responsibility of the end user to research and comply with local laws.
